Joanna Lloyd-Davies
Joanna has worked with Metzger for over 13 years managing the highly successful Major Project business sector (including PFI/PPP) and is still regarded as the only recruitment consultant in the UK who has direct experience of bidding, winning and operating these complex projects. She has led the business in supporting major project bidding teams, SPVs, consultancies and financial organisations, in both the public and private sectors, providing dynamic, experienced professionals for diverse roles at executive, board, general and operational management levels. Her intuitive personal skills, engaging manner and sense of fun all contribute to her ongoing popularity and success. Joanna is a Fellow of BIFM and, for many years, has been selected as a Lead Judge for the Annual BIFM Excellence Awards.
What did life hold for you before Metzger?
I commenced my career as a dental nurse swiftly followed by interesting years in banking, surveying, and corporate finance, before moving into the major projects arena and facilities management. I spent some 15 years in property related sectors managing property portfolio and infrastructure services. This experience has given me a thorough understanding of my current business sectors and means that I fully relate to both client and candidate issues.
Can you name one person who has really inspired you and why?
Christiaan Barnard, the pioneering surgeon particularly in the transplant arena. He led the World's first heart transplant in 1967 and achieved many groundbreaking successes thereafter. For me, he is a truly inspirational human being and what a difference he has made to mankind.
What values do you look for in a candidate?
Integrity, drive, credibility, professionalism, focus and flexibility! Not always easy to find but essential qualities.
What would be your best career advice?
Seriously review your career at least every 24 months before someone else does it for you. Have your own "personal" business/visiting cards – they provide an essential tool for future communication!
Tell me something that no one knows about you?
I’m planning a trip to Antarctica pursuing my usual intrepid activities of sailing, survival and trekking. I was a member of the crew of the Clipper New York 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race (we won!) and completed the Castaway Challenge in 2009.
And finally, what is your burning ambition?
I have lots of things to achieve – some more realistic than others! Firstly I’ve an idea for a book; secondly I want to grow really good tomatoes and finally get down to a size 12 again!
