Karen Calver

Having worked with Metzger for over 16 years, Karen has a wealth of experience and many enviable long standing client and candidate relationships. She is very focused on exceeding expectations and both her own and Metzger’s reputations are of paramount importance to her. She specialises in the Total Facilities Management and Business and Support Services sector, and recruits at Board, Executive, Director and Senior Management level. Karen is very thorough, enquiring and intuitive, and has a natural ability to engage with clients and candidates, which has contributed greatly to her success at matching the right client with the right candidate.

What did life hold for you before Metzger?

I spent 8 years at Satex, a leader in the office supplies industry, and today part of Office Depot. I then took up the position of Sales and Marketing Director at Coleridge Business Services, a privately owned Print and Document Management company, where I stayed for 9 years before joining the Metzger team in 1999. I firmly believe that my sales and marketing background and experience within the Business and Support Services sector has enhanced my capabilities and successes at Metzger.

What values do you look for in a candidate?

For me, the key ingredients are a positive mental attitude, a commitment to succeed, to keep an open mind and the willingness to take on board personal accountability.

What would be your best career advice?

Respect the organisation you are looking to join – make sure that the role and the culture of the business meet your ambitions - don't ever just move for more money!

Tell me something that no one knows about you?

That I have perfected the art of being a hopeless cook! Seriously, not my strength but thankfully I do have other qualities!

And finally, what is your burning ambition?

I like new challenges and I would love to undertake a sky dive. I think the sense of freedom, space and sheer excitement must be quite awesome.
