Lorraine Thomas

Having joined Metzger in January 2007 to launch and build the interim division, Lorraine then moved to a broader development role across all sectors of the business, both permanent and interim, focusing on client acquisition, development and retention. Lorraine is now Managing Director, with responsibility for running the business. She works closely with the team, clients and candidates as well as developing Metzger’s future business strategy. She has a reputation as an accomplished communicator with strong commercial, negotiation and interpersonal skills. She is a consummate professional, yet she always retains a personable and approachable manner that makes her both a strong team leader and player. She is a Member of the Institute of Directors, a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers and a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners.

Lorraine is actively involved in delivering senior client assignments across a broad range of functions and market sectors.

Her background is in B2B sales where she gained extensive experience of managing major client contracts and tender campaigns within the public and private sectors, nationally and internationally. Throughout her career, she has had responsibility for the recruitment, leadership and development of large teams

What is the best part of your role?

The range and diversity of people that I meet. I also get great satisfaction from making a difference to our clients’ businesses by helping them recruit talent and our candidates’ careers by helping them find the right role.

What values do you look for in a candidate?

Professionalism, capable of listening and the ability to give specific relevant examples as answers to questions; also someone who has great self-awareness and humility.

What would be your best career advice?

Treat finding a job as a job!

Can you name one person who has really inspired you and why?

Richard Branson – he’s ambitious, slightly unconventional, prepared to take risks, thinks it’s ok to have a sense of humour in the workplace and is constantly looking for better and different ways of doing things.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I am passionate about riding horses and enjoy all equestrian sports, scuba diving and am learning to play golf. I also enjoy fine wine.
